Want to take notes, capture pictures, do some writing, and be able to access all of your saved work from any computer. You don't need a portable drive. You can save it all with Evernote. In fact, this blog post was  saved in Evernote, and I just copied and pasted it here. Evernote is fast becoming my favorite Web 2.0 tool.

Wondering how to use Evernotes, check "10 Evernote Tips for School: Education Series" and also "10 Tips for Using Evernote."

Here's more information "The Many Purposes of Evernote."

Evernote. also works on your smartphone. Can't go wrong! Can access anything you save from just about anywhere on the Net. If you have not tried Evernote., try it today.

I like the idea of an online notebook tool, but I'm not sure that Evernote is the right tool for me. After exploring it briefly and reading some of the the articles here, it seems to me that this tool would make added work for someone who is already organized. I don't like the idea of taking pictures or scanning book pages and saving them online. I think the purpose of an online notebook should be to save already digital, web-accessed material as you are using it. I have used Diigo for this purpose. The diigo toolbar, which is a simple download, allows you to capture and write notes on websites, and save them into folders, which are easy to access later by signing into your account. There is a promotional video on the diigo homepage that explains how easy the tool is to use. (I wish I knew how to attach the video to this post!) Regardless, there are so many technological tools out there that we have to decide which ones are going to be the most effective for certain purposes. Getting to know a few tools well is better than trying to use all of them all of the time.

In response to Jess's comment, I use both Diigo and Evernote, but don't see them as necessarily overlapping. For instance, I will save in Evernote text that might be otherwise in a Word document that I don't want to put into Google docs or into Google cloud. I have saved work in Evernote that I want to use for a variety of purposes. Evernote will also save audio clips and photos. Yes, there are lots of Web 2.O tools, and we should select carefully what works for us, so we are not overwhelmed. At first I was hesitated to use Evernote, but so many educators were boasting about its use, I took the dive, and have been happily swimming around since. It did take some practice laps to get the strokes right, and I am sill perfecting the form, but think I will stick with Evenote for awhile. I can also see where it can help when compiling notes for a large research project. Diigo would be a good place to store URLs but don't think I would want to store extensive notes there. Still, must say, I have Diigo opened almost all the time I am online because I never know when I will come across a site I want to store for later use, and also like the tagging feature for keeping organized.

I believe Evernote has the capability to take a screen capture and make it work with text to speech. This could be amazing, but I can't figure it out. Seems like a paid feature. Does anyone know? We need to find more ways to support students who cannot read because they certainly can learn.

Judy, I absolutely LOVE Evernote! I recently wrote a post about how invaluable it is in my classroom.

@Jess I think we all need to find the tools that work best for us, but Evernote is not as cumbersome as you may think. It actually SAVES time! If you have a smartphone, laptop, or iPad you will find it keeps you pretty well organized.

I am adding the link to my post below & let me know if you have any questions. I am always happy to help!

After exploring this tool it seems after some exploring and experimenting it will be easy to use and helpful. It would eliminate time from copying and pasting from articles to use later or taking actual notes. Evernote is something that I am definitely going to give a try. I think everything deserves a chance to find the right match. Not everyone is going to like every tool that is created. Everyone has different needs, skill levels, and interests.
