Very powerful message about our mode of communication. It sees the media is the message. Is this too much for all of us to comprehend or understand the power of this.

What a wake up call this you tube clip is! Technology has completely revolutionized the way people communicate. It's a reminder that the kids growing up today are communicating very differently from the generation that are teaching them. I find it hard to keep up with all the changes and am constantly finding myself learning from my students about technology and am in a constant state of amazement when I witness how quickly kids are able to learn all this stuff. It makes me wonder how this affects their learning. The constant use of facebook, internet, and text messaging must affect the students in the classroom, but it's all happened in such recent history that consequences/benefits are yet to be discovered. So far I have heard that it's affecting youth's communication skills and writing skills. I'm interested to know if anyone else has heard about advantages/disadvantages of the rapid growth of technology on our childen's education.

I have not yet heard of Apple Keynote, but from this video Keynote looks wicked cool! Those statistics totally blew my mind, like, I had no idea newspaper manufacturing has gone down, but the amount of people reading the newspaper online has gone up, way to be green! And I know I text a lot, but I could never imigine have enough to say to fill up 200,000 texts with.

I love watching these videos. This is the third I've seen in about four months. The funny thing about these videos is that I'm not sure if they are meant to scare us, or empower us. As for the scare tactic, I am quite alright with people reading less newspapers and getting their news online. Reading is still reading. I know studies have been done that show that reading on paper is a different skill than reading on a computer, but knowledge is still be acquired and reading is still occurring. I think it's just the nature of the game. Years ago, books were considered novel and amazing. Just because they aren't anymore does not mean that we are becoming a worse society, just a changing one. I prefer to think that these videos are empowering us. I enjoy technology and have been raised on it. I could not imagine a world without cell phones. I honestly wouldn't even know how to plan to meet up with someone without a phone. What if there's traffic? what if the store is closed? Did people just go home and wait to call them on a land line? Ideas like this seriously confuse me. I say we embrace technology, like Obama did in his campaign, and enjoy all the Internet and cell phones have to offer!

These videos are extremely powerful. I have seen about three or four throughout the other courses here at Saint Joseph College. I wonder to think if students have access to these films in the classrooms? I think it sends a great message of our society and where it stands. We are all about technology. It amazes me to see the stats on the various tools. The one that really got me was: Average teen sending text messages per month= 2,272. I can say that I prefer to send a text than hold a conversation over the phone. It is quite scary to think of the future and what it may bring us. I feel like we out due the years prior but seeing as we are so technological advanced, I wonder what the future will hold.

I personally have never used Apple Keynote but it seems very interesting. I am dying for an Iphone or a mac computer. I love all the neat things that they create and make available to those that have the tools. All the apps that you can download onto the apple machines, are all very beneficial in some way or another. I find more and more apps that are significant towards teaching. Maybe one day computers won't be such a dream to have in classrooms but personal iphones or laptops so that students can participate equally while learning both the material and technology at the same time...

This is the future...like it or not...as teachers we need to prepare ourselves with more technology so we can prepare our kids.
